Election Schedule and Process

India's 18th General Elections to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament, will be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, 2024. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued the official notification under Section 56 of the Representation of the People Act 1951, outlining the election schedule.

Phase-wise Elections

  • Phase 1: April 19 - 91 Lok Sabha constituencies across 20 states and Union Territories
  • Phase 2: April 24 - 97 Lok Sabha constituencies across 23 states and Union Territories
  • Phase 3: April 29 - 115 Lok Sabha constituencies across 13 states and Union Territories
  • Phase 4: May 6 - 72 Lok Sabha constituencies across 9 states and Union Territories
  • Phase 5: May 12 - 51 Lok Sabha constituencies across 7 states and Union Territories
  • Phase 6: May 17 - 59 Lok Sabha constituencies across 9 states and Union Territories
  • Phase 7: June 1 - 54 Lok Sabha constituencies across 8 states and Union Territories

Voter Information

All eligible Indian citizens aged 18 and above as on January 1, 2024, are eligible to vote. Voters can check their registration status and find their polling station at the ECI website: https://electoralsearch.in/.

Home Voting

For the first time in a General Election, home voting will be extended pan India. This facility is available to eligible senior citizens (over 80 years of age) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD).

Political Parties and Candidates

Major political parties contesting the elections include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress (INC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). Several independent candidates are also in the fray.

Election Results

The counting of votes will take place on June 10, 2024. The results will determine the composition of the 18th Lok Sabha and the formation of the next Indian government. The newly elected members will take oath and the new government will be sworn in by the President of India.
