Manchester City Move Top with 4-0 Fulham Win
Guardiola's Team Edge Closer to Fourth Consecutive Title
Gvardiol Double Seals Victory
Manchester City took a significant step closer to a fourth successive Premier League title as Josko Gvardiol's double moved them top of the table on Saturday. The Croatian defender scored twice in the first half to give City a comfortable lead at Craven Cottage, before Riyad Mahrez and Erling Haaland added goals in the second half to seal a 4-0 victory.
The result means that City leapfrog Arsenal at the summit of the table, moving one point clear of the Gunners with a game in hand. Fulham, meanwhile, remain in ninth place, seven points off the top four.
City's victory was their fifth in a row in the Premier League, and they have now won 12 of their last 13 games in all competitions. Guardiola's team are now in a strong position to retain their title, with just seven games remaining in the season.
Fulham started the match brightly and had the first chance of the game when Aleksandar Mitrovic headed wide from a corner. However, City soon took control of the game and took the lead in the 27th minute when Gvardiol headed home from a Kevin De Bruyne cross.
Gvardiol doubled City's lead just five minutes later, finishing off a move involving De Bruyne and Mahrez. The Belgian midfielder then made it 3-0 in the 56th minute with a fine strike from outside the box.
Haaland completed the scoring in the 81st minute, tapping home from close range after a cross from Bernardo Silva. The Norwegian striker has now scored 27 goals in all competitions this season.
City will now turn their attention to their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday. The first leg of the tie will be played at the Etihad Stadium.
